This week I decided to review a
movie I normally wouldn’t watch called The Chaperone. The movie is about
an incarcerated father who has been released from prison and wants to be a
changed man and reconnect with his daughter who was little when he was sent to
jail. The daughter, of course, wants nothing to do with him and pushes him away
but he still tries to be a part of her life. Throughout his time trying to
spend time with her he is also trying to get rid of his past including his old
buddies who got him in jail in the first place.
The movie is no way at all a comedy.
Sure I chuckled at a couple parts and enjoyed watching most of the movie, but
there is no way I would classify it as being a comedy. It was more of a family
drama type of movie. The movie starts out extremely slow. Within the first five
minutes of the movie, I could tell it wasn’t going to be a movie that would make
me laugh out loud. Eventually the movie does pick up the pace about halfway
through and starts to get a little interesting.
Not only does the movie start out
slow, but the actors don’t really do a good job of showing true emotion. The
girl who played the daughter never was sincere and her acting was over the top
too dramatic mad at her dad and not at all believable.
If you are interested in watching
this movie I recommend you only do so if you can sit through a movie and wait
for it to get better and not expect to laugh much. It is however a good family
movie, which is hard to find these days.
Is it supposed to be a comedy? I am always disappointed when I think a movie is going to be funny and it isn't, but at least now I know not to waste my time on this movie!
ReplyDeleteI remember this movie being marketed as a comedy, but I really didn't find much humor in it either. Honestly, I got up and left the room 40 minutes after it started. WWE doesn't have a very good track record when it comes to the movie they produce and this one didn't deviate from their norm. I appreciate the honesty and objectivity in this review.
ReplyDeleteThank you for writing this review about "The Chaperone". Now I know that if I want to choose a comedy movie to watch, I will not choose this one.
